Academy Awards Hair and Makeup Winners

Like many of you, last night I tuned into watch the 83rd annual Academy Awards, AKA my Superbowl Sunday. I had some expectations, and felt nervous for the young hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco (the youngest to ever host the Oscars) but I think they did a wonderful job, I thought Anne was delightful and I loved her multiple wardrobe changes. Admittedly, after a while I was bored, but that is to be expected, I really live for the red carpet coverage. I decided that I definitely need to see The King’s Speech to see what all the fuss is about, and with Colin Firth as the lead, I think I’ll manage somehow.

The red carpet was flooded with all the glamour and elegance that is expected of the Oscar’s. I was surprised at how many actresses opted to forgo an updo and wear their hair down. I loved seeing makeup classics, the standard red lip, and the iconic smoky eye, as well as some fun and unexpected touches of color. Of course I had some standout favorites, and the Oscar goes too…

Sandra Bullock shined and pulled off matching her red  lip to her dress perfectly. I like how she kept her accessories to a minimum and put the focus on her beautiful face and dress.

{Reese Witherspoon image from Stylecaster}

Reese Witherspoon’s 60’s inspired hair was the talk of the evening, as well as her black and white dress, being compared to Julia Roberts Oscar’s Valentino. I loved her fun and flirty ponytail and emerald earrings for a pop of color.

{Natalie Portman image from Stylecaster}

Oscar winner Natalie Portman was absolutely radiant. I loved her soft, smoky eye and her asymmetrical side swept hair. I could see this a bridal look. I loved her matching plum earrings!

{Jennifer Lawrence image from Allure}

Jennifer Lawrence was one of my favorite’s for the evening, I think she looked like a bombshell in her red dress and sexy, smoky eye. Avon makeup artist Jillian Dempsey used Avon Blushing Raisins Eyeshadow Quad and lots of black mascara and liner to achieve the look.

{Halle Berry image from Stylecaster}

I don’t think I will ever get over how gorgeous Halle Berry is, her skin is like no other. Chanel makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua used Chanel Mat Lumiere Matte Fluid Makeup to polish her skin to perfection.

{Cate Blanchett image from Allure}

Cate Blanchett is always an awards season favorite, I loved her striking Givenchy dress and how her almost platinum bob balanced the look. She looked so sophisticated!

{Anne Hathaway image from Stylecaster}

I think Anne Hathaway looked stunning throughout the Oscars, this beautiful chignon was so regal and elegant. I could also see this becoming a requested bridal look this year. The classic red lips is the perfect complement to her gorgeous gown.

{Amy Adams image from Stylecaster}

Amy Adams proved that red hair with a blue dress is always a killer combination. I loved her soft, touchable waves, hairstylist Laini Reeves used Couture Colour Pequi Oil to give her hair luxurious shine.

{Gwyneth Paltrow image from Allure}

Gwyneth shut it down last night in my book. Her liquid platinum Calvin Klein dress was one of my favorite red carpet moments, I loved her heavy colorful earrings, and her smoky eye of burnished golds and coppers made her eyes look their bluest.

{Mila Kunis image from Glamour}

Mila is quickly becoming one to watch on the red carpet. I loved the lace detail on her dress! Her makeup and hair are always flawless, playing up her beautiful features. Makeup artist Tracey Levy used Lancome lipstick in Blazing Pink for her subdued pout.  I can definitely see her hair being requested for weddings and proms.

{Michelle Williams image from Glamour}

I loved Michelle’s icy Hitchcock blonde pixie and the fresh, unexpected sparkly lavender eye shadow beneath her lower lashes. Simply gorgeous.

What did you think of the Oscar’s? Who was your favorite look?

    I agree…Gwyneth’s choice in hair,make up, accessories, and dress was so fresh and new…the best by far for the night!

    Mila Kunis dress was gorgeous, however the color for some reason was not right. Her looks are so striking and strong, she can get away with more vibrant colors. I would have liked to see deep regal purple, or red in that dress. But she does look beautiful not matter what!

    And lastly, Reese’s hair I don’t get. Maybe I’m not with it, I don’t know. All the fashonist were raving about it and all I could think was, “she looks like one of those people that sell ponytail hair extensions at the mall!” It looked like she just attached a fake hair piece onto her head:)

    I loved everything about Mila’s look. And Natalie never disappoints. Oh, and the blue dress that Mandy Moore performed in! Loved that one, too.

    I love love love Halle Berry. Always. Anytime.

    I didn’t love Reese’s look. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it felt old and stale.
