Aging Makeup Mistake: Heavy Foundation

One way to look older than you are, aside from this, is using a thick foundation. There are distinct ways to appear younger or older through the use of makeup and being heavy handed with your foundation application is a surefire way to appear older. Heavy foundation can settle into lines and wrinkles, making them look more pronounced. The more skin you can see the better. If you look at the skin of a baby or a young child, you can see that their skin is even in tone and luminous. You want to replicate the look of young skin when you apply your makeup.

Choose a sheer foundation or a tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone and boost radiance. One fantastic option is the glowing {literally} counterpart to my Holy Grail tinted moisturizer, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 Illuminating. This moisturizing product has light reflecting particles that add a shimmering effect to the skin, leaving it looking youthful. You can use it alone or mixed with your regular tinted moisturizer or foundation. Highlighting products can take years off your face, and the more well-hydrated the skin, the younger it will look. Moisturizing plumps up the skin, and lessens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Thus, I cannot stress the importance of proper moisturization enough. After you apply your foundation or tinted moisturizer to the areas where you need the coverage-typically the center of the face-and you have set your makeup with powder, you can use a damp makeup sponge on the areas where you have wrinkles {laugh lines, crow’s feet} to soak up any excess product. Removing makeup may seem counterintuitive, but as long as skin is fresh and moisturized, you will always look younger than if you have an obvious covering of makeup.
