Baby Yourself

I am not yet a mother. But I someday hope to be. I adore children, they’re my favorite people. I love the amazing bond between mother and child; it is awe inspiring and will truly go down as the definitive love story for all time. A mother’s love is like no other. She keeps her child safe, no matter what, puts their needs first. Loves them, and protects them from harm, like a lioness protecting her cubs. I see so many new mothers’s so consumed with educating themselves with books, classes, and online resources to determine what is best for their child. They research vaccinations, champion that breast milk is best {*cough* Gisele} buy or make organic baby food, buy lead-free toys, vegan toys, and organic fragrance-free soaps and lotions to protect their fragile skin. My question to these mothers is this, why do you use high quality, allergy tested organic bath and body products for your children but not for yourself? If it is good enough for your children, will it not be good enough for you? Why do most mothers instead, use highly chemicalized, perfumed and dyed products? What is with the disconnect? You should be using the same, all natural, organic {you are using natural and organic correct?} products that you use on your children. Skin may not breathe, but it does absorb everything you put on it. Babying and protecting your skin should not stop after infancy. Here are a few of my favorite baby products for both mommy and baby:

Dr. Bronner’s All-One Hemp Pure Castile Soap Baby Mild- I currently have this long lasting bar in my shower for my {overly} sensitive skin. It produces such a rich, thick lather yet rinses away cleanly. If you’re packing light you can use this bar as shampoo as well. I’m a huge fan of Dr. Bronner’s products and when I’m a mom I will definitely be reaching for them again and again.

CeraVe Lotion-Sometimes babies require even more TLC. Skin issues like eczema, can arise and are actually quite common. This non irritating lotion uses hyaluronic acid {found naturally occurring in our skin} to draw out moisture from the air and put it into the skin for unbeatable hydration and protection. This time released ceramide enriched lotion is a miracle worker; I’ve seen it firsthand on both children and adults.

The Organic Pharmacy Nappy Balm-This soothing, smells great, balm not only works wonders on baby’s bottom, it is also great for minor skin irritations for the older set. Keep this all natural gem in the medicine cabinet.

Earth’s Best Everyday Natural Lavender Lotion- Is there anything more relaxing than the scent of lavender? You and your baby will be in agreement on this product. The clean, fresh scent is light and never overpowering. Use this comforting and moisturizing lotion on your baby before naps and bedtime {as well as on yourself} to help them drift off to sleep. I mean, it couldn’t hurt right?

California Baby SPF30 Sunblock Stick-You know I’m a huge advocate for sun protection for women, can you imagine how militant I am about sun protection for the new, delicate skin of babies and children? I love stick sunscreen, they’re substantial and they really hold up. Plus, the application could not be any easier and its fool proof. This one is non greasy and provides great coverage for you and your wee ones. Throw it in the diaper bag and keep one for yourself.

Do you currently use any baby products to baby your skin?

  1. You’re so right, why should we use gentle products on our babies but not ourselves? One of my old roommates with super sensitive skin loves CeraVe.
