I am all for getting a good deal, I love scoring savings as much as the next girl. However, when it comes to buying a blush that is sold with a corresponding brush, I know I’m not getting a bargain. You may be confused; you know I’m a huge fan of brushes, as seen here. You know that I detest sponge applicators, so what’s the deal? I have yet to find a good brush that comes with a blush. The brushes that are sold with blush are far too small and flat to give you the natural looking application you are trying to achieve. The brush can’t lay down the proper amount of pigment and it can’t blend smoothly. Instead, you wind up with an 80’s contoured stripe.
When it comes to a blush brush, you need a bigger, soft, fluffy brush to give you a natural flush of color. If the brush is bigger than the apple of your cheek, it will be hard to control and the color will extend up into your hairline. If the brush is smaller than the apple of your cheek, it will leave you looking stripy and contoured. Hence, my beef with brushes that come with your blush. You’ll know you found the right blush brush when the brush bristles spread evenly across the apple of your cheek, depositing the perfect amount of color. You shouldn’t have to struggle with your makeup, use the tools that will help you get out the door faster and looking your best. Invest in a high quality brush, like NARS Blush Brush, take good care of it and you will enjoy it for years to come. Bet you can’t say the same for the brush that comes with your blush.
What’s your makeup pet peeve?

I hate blush brushes so much that I pretty much stopped using power blush to avoid them. My brush skills are just not great. That said, I do have several new eye brushes and it was helpful to read your summer post about brush care and maintenance! As usual, thank you Bre!

You’re tight these brushes are so ridiculous, they could save on that! When it comes to these little annoying things about make up i’d say I don’t like: products that make your face look shiny, concealers that don’t work (see the overrated Yves Saint Laurent Touche éclat), Eye pencils that fade away in the blink of an eye.
