Gold Rush

Is there anything more luxurious than gold? I love seeing gold touches in interior design; I enjoy gold pieces in my closet and wardrobe of accessories. To quote this crazy guy, I love gold! Gold is also a fantastic and universally flattering makeup color. With the holidays approaching I am delighted to see a variety of gold makeup products to choose, from lipstick to nail polish. Metallics are incredibly flattering, but none more so than gold. I recently did a holiday photo shoot {see images above and below} and I used gold eye shadow on each of the models; it worked beautifully on their skin tones ranging from fair to deep. If you try gold makeup, and I hope you do, use the Midas touch on one feature at a time. For example, if you are wearing a gold lipstick of lip gloss, try pairing it with a brown, smoky eye ala Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian. If you are wearing gold eye shadow, try pairing it with tawny, chocolate brown, and nude shades to complement. Here are some of my favorite gilded gold products.

Nail polish-Revlon in Gold Get Em, Essie in Golden Nuggets and OPI in Golden Rules-For a molten metal finish that is sure to get you noticed, these shades are a must. Perfect for a festive party look.

Lipgloss- M.A.C. Lustreglass in Instant Gold-This color is beautiful and sheer. I’ve recommended this gorgeous color before here. It’s the perfect shimmery nude color alone or on top of your favorite lipstick for a luster shined neutral gold look.

Lipstick-M.A.C. lipstick in Gel- This is a must own. It’s a staple in my kit as it can transform any lip color you currently own but want to tweak and change. It’s a sheer metallic beige frost that shows up as a soft gold. It’s a great transitional product as it can take you from day to evening in one quick swipe. It’s also a great highlighting trick to make your lips look fuller. Use your favorite lip color with Gel in the center of the mouth, and cupid’s bow to give the illusion of a more plump pout.

Eye shadow- M.A.C. eye shadow in Goldmine- A beautiful frost eye shadow that is uber flattering. It’s perfect on its own with some black eye liner for contrast, or smudged and blended with chocolate browns or a deep grey. For the photo shoot I encompassed the eye in gold and added a matte medium brown in the crease. Gold eye shadow is one of those rock star shades that accentuates every eye color-brown, green, or blue, it looks fantastic on everyone.

Highlighters- NARS The Multiple in South Beach- I adore NARS Multiples, and I love to collect them all. This particular shade is a wonderful highlight. You know how candlelight is so flattering? This is like candlelight in a swivel tube. It’s a gel cream formula that dries down to a powder finish. Glide it across your cheekbones, your cupids bow, and your clavicle for a luminous glow. I also like to use it on my exposed legs and arms to warm up the skin and highlight for a slimming effect.

NARS blush in Albatross- No one does highlighters like NARS, this blush imparts a sheer golden glow. You can use it alone, or layer it on top of your other blushes. It accentuates your cheekbones like only a NARS blush can and gives you that radiant finish that helps blur imperfections. The effect is like the special light diffusing cameras they use on The View.

What about you, will you be solid gold this holiday season? {Sorry for the lame joke, I couldn’t resist}.
