If I Could Turn Back Time

A trip to the dermatologist’s office got me thinking. As I sat in the waiting room I watched different patients go back to see the doctor, the majority of them were middle age and older and all of them were getting laser treatments {I overheard the office staff and I could smell the burnt skin-ew}. I wonder if they wished they could somehow turn back the clock and prevent the cause of whatever they were now having lasered away on their skin. Perhaps it was a Free Bird tattoo on an unmentionable area they got back in Spring Break? Or an attempt to erase the signs of repeated and cumulative sun damage? I speak for my own twenty something age group when I say that we really don’t think long term. Especially in regards to our skin. We live in the we want it and we want it now and we will tweet and Facebook about it now generation. We want a tan, we lay out or patron tanning salons. We want a smoke, we’ll bum one {or several} off of some clueless guy at the bar. Thinking of the long-standing consequences of our actions isn’t really our style. However, I know the generations before us would do a lot of things differently. Get more sleep. Avoid the sun and use SPF. Shun cigarettes and tanning, two vices {carcinogens} we now know only cause us nothing but trouble. It’s like the old adage, hindsight is 20/20. That’s why I stress the importance of sunscreen, encourage you to get a safe tan from a bottle, remind you to take your vitamins, avoid cigarettes like the bubonic plague they are, and above all, enjoy being you. Why? Because I’m a maternal, pushy esthetician and I want you to stay your fabulous self forever that’s why! So make good choices today, so you can reap all the benefits tomorrow.

Is there anything you wish you could go back and redo? I personally would not have tanned, nor would I have rocked bangs for as long as I did. Eep.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

P.S. Check out this touching and informative video, called Dear 16 Year Old Me. Remember, SPF 30 everyday!

P.P.S. You know this post totally put Cher’s song into my head. Which then made me think of this.

I love that clip. And Jack and Karen in general. The show should have been called Jack and Karen as far as I’m concerned.

  2. I recently gave up tanning for good and this post just reminded me why. Thanks Bre!

I can’t agree more! No smoking, no tanning beds, and use a moisturizer! I once read an article that said using tanning beds increases your chance of getting skin cancer by 200%. Not really a statistic I like to chance. I also think you should do a blog response to the mondo plastic surgery epidemic. Girls are getting it to look older, and some people want it to look fake so people know they have the money to afford it. How stupid is that? PS Bethenny Frankel is on my Health mag this month and that lady has some serious Joker Face. And I’m done.
