Jersey Not So Licious

I have been asked on more than one occasion if I watch this show. In a word? No. I tried once before and I had to turn it off. There are not many TV shows that feature my chosen profession, however, I did watch the other two, Blush: The Search For The Next Great Makeup Artist and Face Off. I support my fellow artists; don’t get me wrong, but when it comes to Jerseylicious. I.cant.even.

Shows like this one only make makeup artists look bad. This must be how Italian Americans feel about the Sopranos, The Jersey Shore, and The Real Housewives of New Jersey (speaking of, did you watch the season premiere last night? Craziness!). As makeup artists, we have a difficult enough time as it is convincing potential clients we won’t turn them into Vegas showgirls or Snooki for their wedding day. We don’t need shows like this that further perpetuate the stereotype of makeup artists equal a lot of loud, over the top makeup and loud, spiteful, obnoxious makeup artists. It’s bad enough that I have to watch Carmindy on What Not to Wear, palm her clients in the middle of their forehead as she works, or blow on her brushes (GROSS! So unhygienic!) before she applies them to a client’s face or eyes. It makes me want to jump through my TV, stop her, and take over. Instead, I should pull an Andy Cohen and turn it into a drinking game every time it happens. Not take it all so personally, but it’s a struggle. Therefore, I don’t watch these shows that only serve to push my buttons.

{I wouldn't let these women anywhere near my hair or face image from thedailymakeover}

What about you? Do you watch Jerseylicious? Are there any shows that you just can’t watch because of your profession?

    This is exactly how I feel about Italian/American mobster shows!

    Blowing on brushes is unhygienic. Omg. Duh. I am an idiot. I blame Carmindy.
