Try It Buy It: M.A.C. Studio Careblend Pressed Powders

Of the limited edition collections M.A.C. releases, the one that is met with the most anticipation (aside from Holiday) is the summer collection. Each year M.A.C. unveils waterproof and fun products to keep you looking your best while beating the summer heat. When I saw their Careblend/Pressed Powder in bronzer shades I knew I had to have them.

In the world of bronzers there are three camps: glitter, shimmer, and matte. The first is to be avoided entirely; no one ever looks naturally sun kissed covered in glitter. The second, shimmer, can be tricky to navigate. My favorite and Holy Grail bronzer, NARS bronzer in Laguna, contains a fine golden thread of shimmer. It is never disco ball obvious, and it imparts a pretty, flattering warmth to the skin. However, sometimes I want a matte and shimmer free finish. Enter M.A.C. Studio Careblend/Pressed Powder in Gold-go-Lightly or Lush-Light Bronze.

These powders are true to Careblend form, and are silky and almost creamy to the touch. They don’t leave you looking powdery or dry, and really mimic the look of natural skin. The texture is light and soft, something you don’t usually find with bronzers. They go on smoothly and evenly, providing a natural looking sun-kissed glow.

The colors are excellent, nothing orange or dirty looking here. The Gold-go-Lightly (a mid-tone golden tan brown) shade is perfect for those with fair skin (in M.A.C an NW15-NW25) and the Lush-Light Bronze (a mid tone rosy pink brown) is great for medium to darker skin (M.A.C. NW30 and above). A large, fluffy powder brush like M.A.C. 150 leaves you with an airbrushed, luminous effect. Due to the matte and blendable texture, these powders are great for contouring the face. You can learn more about contouring here.

Like most M.A.C. products the wear time is fantastic, eight hours plus. If you are in the market for a matte bronzer like I was, or you would like to try a bronzer that is user friendly, I definitely recommend trying these pressed powders. I’m not one for letting packaging sway me, I don’t care what the product looks like, I care about the product itself, however, the Surf Baby collection is really cute. The Careblend/Pressed Powders are packaged to look like surfboard wax. If you love the matte bronzers and become hooked, be sure and stock up as they are a limited edition product.

Have you tried the Careblend/Pressed Powders yet? Will you? Have you tried any of the new Surfbaby collection?
