Poppy Mouth

The picture above is from the Poppy Reserve, a place I was lucky enough to visit while in California. Poppies are one of my favorite flowers; it may have something to do with this movie. The color is so rich, vibrant, and inspiring. I can’t help but see the world in shades of makeup, and flowers are no exception. Clearly I am not alone in this inspiration, Jil Sander and Ralph Lauren’s Fall 2011 collections both featured poppy colored lips. While the look may have been for Fall, I think it is a decidedly pretty and fresh look, perfect for Summer.

I haven’t made my love for bold lipsticks a secret, as seen here and here. I think a bright and bold lipstick is one of the quickest and easiest ways to elevate your overall look. One simple swipe of lipstick, some foundation and powder to even out your skin tone, a bit of mascara and you have a gorgeous, runway inspired look.

Some of my favorite M.A.C. and NARS lipsticks will leave you with the perfect poppy mouth.

    Hi Bri-
This is timely since I’ve actually been trying bolder pink colors. I’m usually a gloss (Juicy Tube Lancome) girl. But, I think a bolder lipstick is a nice change, looks good in photos, and makes more of a statement. Teri

I’m not going to lie to you, Bre. I’m scared of the poppy mouth. It looks so pretty on the model, but I’m afraid to rock it.

@Danielle Miss Thang, where does this fear of color come from? What do you think will happen to you if you wear a bold or bright lip color? Worst case scenario? It’s only makeup, it’s not a tattoo! You are a gorgeous girl and can wear anything you like. Seriously. Like most fears, yours are irrational and unnecessary. I’ll admit, a bold lip takes some confidence, but that is part of the fun! Be fearless with your makeup and own it. If you do no one would dare step to you. Promise. Put on a daring lip color and walk with some swagger! I know you have it in you…

@Teri I’m definitely a gloss girl myself, but nothing beats the color saturation and payoff of a lipstick. Who am I kidding? I love ALL things lip! I think you would look chic and elegant with a poppy lip. If you try it promise to post pics!

I usually prefer a nude lip on myself, but I’m loving the poppy trend. So pretty.
