Save Your Money: Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes

In this post I review Make Up For Ever (MUFE) Aqua Eyes…

Have you ever gone to a favorite restaurant, and instead of going for your usual and beloved entree, you decide to change things up a bit and try something new? And you regretted it? Wishing you had stuck to your tried and true? That’s exactly how I feel about this eye pencil. I can’t say it was an impulse purchase; I was in Sephora, looking for new makeup to give a whirl. I had read about MUFE Aqua Eyes in my trusted magazines to rave reviews, and in my line of work I am always looking for products that advertise longevity. I purchased the eye pencil in Mat Black 0L, just a plain black, a staple for any girl, makeup artist or not.

The pencil glided easily enough, as it is a very creamy formula {that should have tipped me off} but I found that it started to get chunky when I went over the same area twice for more coverage or a thicker line. As I went about my day, I noticed that black specks had fallen on my cheeks and under my eyes. I initially thought maybe it was my mascara flaking, but it was a fresh tube, and hello, I’m BreBeauty, no amateur mistakes here. I knew it must have been the new pencil. I cleaned myself up and persevered. Not even an hour after that I noticed that the creamy pencil had migrated-to under my eyes. What was once liner on the top lash line was now a mess giving me the classic {dreaded} raccoon {Taylor Momsen} eyes. I was not pleased. What was even more troubling was that the color was not even a true black anymore-it had faded to a grey. Let me preface by saying that I do tend to have an oilier eye lid, so I can’t use products that are not advertised as waterproof or longwear because they will crease on me, but this was advertised as waterproof. I didn’t want to give up on this new purchase.

In the days that followed I tried the pencil in different ways, i.e. over primer, without primer, over eye shadow, without eye shadow, just on the lash line, just in the water line, this pencil never failed to disappoint me-or leave me looking anything but smudged and like a sullen Avril Lavigne. For an eye pencil that was advertised as waterproof, smudge-proof, and fade-proof it certainly wasn’t living up to its claims. I chucked it. Like a bad relationship, I had exhausted all possible options, turned myself inside out, all the while thinking it was me, with my {oily eye lid} issues. Only to realize it wasn’t me-it was this crappy pencil! So into the garbage it went. I didn’t regret seeing it go-even though it cost me $17 USD-because I knew that I still had my trusted and dependable eye liners. M.A.C. Powerpoint Eye Pencil, HiP Studio Secrets Professional Color Truth Cream Eyeliner, and L’Oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Eyeliner. Save your money on Aqua Eyes and try my tried and trues instead.

Have you ever tried MUFE Aqua Eyes? What’s your verdict?

Great review Bre! I’ve heard it sucked too. My favorite part of the post, without a doubt, was ‘…and hello, I’m BreBeauty, no amateur mistakes here.’ Loves it!

@Vonnie Excellent point, but regrettably I don’t live close to a Sephora (closest one to me is 2 hours away-it’s painful let me tell you). Plus, it would have taken away the satisfaction of chucking it into the garbage can! :)

  5. Breanna says:

@Danielle Agreed! What cracks me up the most is, if you search “raccoon” on, pictures of Taylor Momsen come up.

@Sam thank you as always for reading! Definitely don’t waste your hard earned money on MUFE eye pencils-major disappointment. I really wanted to like them…

i know exactly what you mean. even by doing research sometimes you just are disappointed with results. thanks for sharing & i’ll cross it off my list.

i just bought this eyeliner and decided to test it by using it in my waterline and then working out (sillay, i know :) ) and it totally stayed put. 1 hour of cardio. sweaty mess. eyeliner did not puddle, crumble, or smear. i know that’s not a very good test of this liners wear, but now im hoping i didn’t just waste $17!

  9. Glad I found this article just in time! I really wanted to go get one due to rave reviews. I have oily eyelids too, so I think I’ll give this a miss.
