Mistress of All Evil

This Halloween was a challenge. Normally, I know what I’m going to be for Halloween, as early as November 1st. This year I was back and forth for weeks. I knew I wanted to do something. Something big. I wanted something completely transformative in the way of makeup. In my line of work, I do a lot of “pretty makeup” weddings, special occasions and the like. But I’m no one trick pony, oh no. I love costume looks and I love theatricality.  That’s another reason why I adore Halloween. The possibilities are endless. Sleeping Beauty is one of my most favorite movies, Disney or otherwise. A beautiful princess falls into an ageless sleep and her true loves kiss rouses her awake? Sign me up! Of course I’m leaving out one tiny, little part of the story. There is an evil and powerful witch hellbent on murderous revenge for not being invited to  a party {sounds like a Gossip Girl episode, no?} Enter, my costume for this year. Princesses are great, don’t get me wrong. But a princess is a princess. An evil doer is infinitely more interesting. Maleficent is one bad babe. She’s cunning and haughty, and seemingly content with just her beloved pet, Diablo and her righteous anger to keep her company. The Good Fairies thought she was sad and misunderstood, and they felt sorry for her. I just think she’s fabulous and my favorite Disney villain. I mean she cursed a baby to death for crying out loud, it doesn’t get more evil than that!

This costume was a lot of fun. I had to get ready while answering the door for trick-or-treaters. They got to see me in various stages of makeup, some of them smiled, some of them hesitated, and some of them backed away slowly, rethinking coming up to me for candy. Once I was out, the weird looks continued. Ever have one of those days when you think everyone is staring? Yeah, that was Saturday night for yours truly. As the night progressed I felt more comfortable and I got a lot of nice compliments. Go hard or go home, that’s my Halloween motto.

Stay tuned for next year’s look. Same time, same place!
