Oil Well

Does anyone recall Gwyneth Paltrow’s appearance on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien? She received a lot of flak in the media for the “goop” on her legs, as seen here. While her legs were super reflective in the extreme, an overzealous makeup artist or assistant perhaps, I have to say that I love oil. I may be one of the few people who enjoy the residual greasy after feel of a massage. In fact, I often reach for oils instead of more traditional lotions and creams to moisturize. Natural plant based oils are absorbed readily by the skin and leave it looking hydrated and smooth. When oils are applied to the skin of our body, they leave it with a flattering sheen, which highlights and accentuates muscle tone; this was most likely the reason Gwyneth was sporting shiny stems. Oils are perfect for year round use, and particularly so in the dry, winter months. If you suffer from extremely dry, tight, or dehydrated skin, you should definitely investigate natural oils. Luckily for us oil lovers; there are a lot of wonderful options available for our face, body, and hair.

Aesop Fabulous Face Oil- This intensely hydrating serum is for nighttime use, making the most of your body’s natural healing time. Massage this 100 % preservative-free blend of ylang ylang and jasmine oil into your skin after cleansing and hit the sheets. Wake up with softer, smoother, glowing skin.

Aveda Beautifying Composition Oil- This jojoba oil was my very first Aveda product when I was growing up. I fell in love with the heavenly bergamot and rosemary scent. When I entered esthetician school I used this oil on my facial clients to rave reviews. This oil is perfect for the face, body, or scalp to restore moisture. I love to use it with a Q-tip to remove my stubborn waterproof eye makeup; it’s a staple product that I am never without.

REN Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra Nourishing Body Oil- If you are not familiar with REN products, prepare to fall in love. REN uses the latest in skin care technology, without using synthetic materials. This fragrant rose oil replenishes the skin with moisture and protects against oxidative damage {free radicals} to combat the signs of aging.

Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil To Go- In case you haven’t heard the hype, argan oil is where it’s at. It is one of the greatest beauty ingredients around, lousy with vitamin E and fatty acids that can be used on your face, body, or hair. You can easily fit it into your daily beauty routine and reap the amazing benefits. Maran’s argan oil is purchased from women’s cooperatives in Morocco to support their social and economic welfare. Unlike other argan oil companies, these cooperatives work to ensure the protection and reforestation of Argan trees.

Phyto Phytonectar Ultra Nourishing Oil- This multiuse product can be used as a pre shampoo treatment for those with fine dry hair, or it can be used after shampooing for those with coarse, dry hair. This oil detangles the hair, leaving it soft and supple with lots of shine. Celebrity colorist Rita Hazan even adds this to color before dyeing the locks of her clients to restore and nourish hair.

Do you currently use any oils in your beauty routine? Any favorites?

I love this! I realized a few years back that my body reacts very well to natural oils. I guess I was a teen, and we were all discovering Bath and Body Works. Well, the B&BW lotions made my skin breakout in red bumps. I had to search for an alternative. Enter oils. I have never turned back. Thanks for the info on these brands that you love! XO
