Shower Essentials

As much as I love relaxing and pampering my skin I will be the first to admit that I’m not big on baths. There. I said it! I am far too neurotic and grossed out at the idea of stewing in my own filth. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll indulge in a bath every once in a while, but only after I have showered first. I know. I should really see a shrink. To that end, I am much more of a shower person. We all  have our favorites and essentials. Here is what you will find in my shower:

Eco-Tools Bamboo Bristle Bath Brush- Dry body brushing has long been touted for its ability to flush toxins and help with the appearance of cellulite. I don’t know about all that, but I know that it feels great and leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft. Perfectly exfoliated and prepped for self tanner.

Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Pure-Castile Soap- This organic and cruelty free wash helps get me going in the morning. As I cannot handle caffeine, stimulating peppermint oils invigorate and get me ready to start the day. I’m not a morning person but this soap turns me into this guy.

Shampoo- I switch often but I like Avalon Organics, Aveda and Organix. I like hydrating options that protect my highlights and anything that advertises as being sulfate-free and aimed to add shine is what I use.

Conditioner-Same goes for conditioner, my hair ADD knows no bounds. I like my conditioners rich and heavy to help hydrate and weigh my thick hair down a bit. I’ll often use hair masques as conditioners. My favorites include: Aveda, Phyto, and Oribe.

Kiss My Face Moisture Shave-I refuse to use anything on my skin that contains mineral oil, and that goes for my shaving cream as well. You can apply this thickly or foam it up with water to create a thick lather. I like how it helps keep me track of any areas that I may have missed (something soap can’t do) and helps buffer my sensitive skin from the razor. It’s incredibly hydrating and once you have tried it there is no going back to shaving foam or soap.

Mr. Pumice Pumi Bar- While pedicures are very relaxing, I find that I can do a much better job exfoliating my feet at home. This pumice bar easily blasts away dead, thick skin. I keep it in the shower and use it every other day (or whenever I remember to) to keep my feet looking sandal ready no matter what season it is.

Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Pure Castile Soap in Lavender-Is there anything more relaxing than the scent of lavender? I use this concentrated soap before bed or anytime I need to distress. Studies have shown that in order for scents to affect our brain waves, they have to be pure (read: no Bath & Body Works need apply). This uses essential oils and creates a rich, thick lather. Leaving my skin soft and lightly fragranced, and me blissed out and ready for bed.

Ass/Face Sponge- Just kidding! Of course I can differentiate between the washcloth for my face and the one for…everywhere else. But how funny is this? I think I need to give these as gifts.
