The Importance of Being Idle

I think it’s safe to say that I am a big fan of going all out when it comes to makeup {you’ve seen my Halloween makeup right?} However, I know this is not always feasible or realistic. With our busy lives, and the allure of lazy Sundays, sometimes we don’t have the time or energy to do our makeup. I don’t know about you but on the days I skip makeup I always run into someone I would have preferred to have seen looking more pretty and polished. Or in my given profession, it’s always fun telling people that you do makeup when you’re sans a speck of it. But life is short and sometimes a full face is just not going to happen. When those times occur there are a few {quick} small things you can do to go from blah to better.

  1. Conceal. If you want to forgo a full face of foundation concealer is worth its weight in gold. Concealer makes you look less tired, I’d like to see your Starbucks pull that feat off. Swipe some under the eyes to conceal any dark circles, cover any pimples and conceal around the nose to eliminate any redness or shadows. Use oil blotting papers or powder to set your concealer for the day.
  2. Lashes. I’m not being overdramatic when I say I can’t live without my eye lash curler. OK maybe I could live, but I would look weird. Curling your eyelashes and putting on mascara is the quickest way to look alert and awake. This could be why mascara is such a popular makeup item and women’s number one go-to when dashing out the door.
  3. Blush. I have to be honest, when I first started wearing makeup blush was not my favorite item so I skipped it. Now I know better and I see the importance of fresh, glowing cheeks. You instantly look more youthful and pretty. For lazy days I’m a big advocate of gel or cream blushes for a nice pop of color. Blending with your fingertips will give you a nice, sheer glow.
  4. Lips. Whether you prefer a lip stain, lipstick, or gloss putting some color on your lips will help pull your look together. Lips are the finishing touch to your lazy day makeup look.
  5. Removal. You didn’t think I was going forget this important step did you? In keeping with the lazy theme, you can’t beat makeup remover wipes. Perfect for when you’re too pooped to do the scrub and splash routine.

What’s your lazy day survival guide?

Sunglasses!… I completely agree with you about running into someone when I’m not wearing any makeup so I find concealer to be the most important and Laura Mercier to be the best for me.

  2. Oh, there are SO many lazy day makeup days now that I have the baby!! When I absolutely must, I now put on Armani foundation, Chanel concealer under eye, Bobbi Brown bronzer on face, BB blush on cheeks, Bobbi brown nude eye base and a little BB Champagne shimmer. Also DIOR show mascara and a little liner.

Um, I guess that’s not being lazy necessarily, but I usually do it in under 5 minutes and run out the door!

@Mama Lisha I’m a big fan of sunglasses, ponytail and or a combination of the above including a hat. Full on incognito! I agree, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage is an essential!

@thebeautyfile I’m sure Charlie keeps you on your toes! :) I’m a big fan of the five minute face myself, as long as you are organized and using colors that match you perfectly {and you’re not struggling to make them work} there is no reason for it to take longer than 5 minutes! I see you are a big fan of Bobbi Brown cosmetics, what’s your absolute favorite BB item?

I prefer to not wear makeup if I can and I’ve never worn eyeshadow in my life! I tried putting it on once but I immediately washed it off because I just feel weird with it on. I prefer to just slather on the sunscreen, lip balm, mascara and done :-) xoxoxoxo

You’re sweet Sam. Thanks for reading and commenting. :)

  8. Love the title of this post and that first photo! I could use a little idle time in my life right now. :-)

My favorite new thing for lazy days is Olay’s Color Recapture–it’s moisturizer, but tinted. I throw that on and some lip gloss and I’m ready to run to the grocery store!

Mascara and a lipstain are my go-to items on lazy days and non-lazy days. However, if I’m really feeling that pooped – I just won’t leave the house and order in! ;-)
