Tickled Pink

“What are the hot colors for spring?” In my line of work I am often asked about seasonal trends in makeup. I’m going to level with you, makeup trends are rarely groundbreaking. Darker lips or eyes in the fall, with pastel and bright colors dominating in the spring, we all know the drill. This spring is no exception, especially concerning a makeup staple, the ever present and pretty blush. The Spring 2011 runways showcased looks that were so sweet they could give you a toothache {It’s an expression Tai!}. Pretty pink blush is nothing new, but I really like the effect makeup artist Dick Page achieved for Michael Kors.

Page wanted the skin to appear “vivid and alive” and wanted the cheeks to be the main focus of the face. He blended four different shades together, Shiseido Luminizing Satin Face Color in Orchid, Tea Rose, Petal, and Carnation. The end result was a fresh, and slightly wind-burned effect that I am now seriously obsessed with. To achieve a similar result blend your blush all over the apples of your cheeks and slightly up into the hairline, for the sun or wind-burned effect, also brush the blush along the bridge of the nose, across the forehead, and on the tip of the chin. Keep the rest of your makeup clean, soft, and subdued with a touch of matte foundation, a dusting of pale brown eye shadow on the lid, skip eyeliner and mascara, curl your lashes, and tamp down your natural lip color with a nude pink lipstick. The effect is that of a post-vacation glow, which in January, I could definitely go for.

What do you think of making blush the main focus of your makeup? Will you try this look?

  1. Wow…this beauty looks are so beautiful! I specially like that last two…they look so natural! In these ladies it looks really good, but If I could master these cheeks blush I’d also use some more eyeliner and more mascara. Very very inspiring Bre!

When I don’t have time to do my whole make up routine, I just grab the pressed powder and put on some girlie pink blush, leave the eyes alone and that’s it!! So blush is definitely one of my favorite things to use:)
Great pics…I will have to copy this look for sure.
