It’s summer. You’re baring more skin. Adorning yourself with natural jewelry, jewelry that is the epitome of summer, gems like turquoise, mother of pearl, and coral. You’re opting for more bright and colorful clothing choices to accentuate your (sunless) tanned skin. Why not take this opportunity to inject a little color into your makeup as well? Summer is the perfect time to experiment with color. Whether that be with your eye shadow, blush, or lip color I say go for it. Use your summer jewelry as a guideline or point of reference for some fantastic color choices in makeup. You can try a bold eye shadow as an eye liner (top or bottom) and can refer back here to find the most complementary shade for your eye color. A coral blush highlights tan skin like no other color; it perks up your face and makes you look incredibly pretty and fresh. For summer lips you can experiment with not only brighter colors, but different textures as well. A lip stain will give you a pretty see thru effect, like you’ve just eaten a cherry Popsicle. Here are a few of my favorite color picks for summer makeup:
Benefit Benetint- The original tint. Made from extracted roses, it smells heavenly, and lasts and lasts. Can be used on your lips and cheeks, it’s great on its own or layered under other products. Work quickly though, it dries down rather fast so make sure you know where you want it to go and blend.
M.A.C. matte eyeshadow in Lime-I love green eye shadow, and I really think it looks good on everyone. Just like red lipstick, there is a green shadow for everyone. This particular shade is so fresh and pretty. A thin line of black eyeliner on the upper lashes, black mascara, and you have a beautiful summer eye look.
NARS blush in Gilda-In a word? Stunning. There is something about the color coral that is so flattering on all skin tones. It accentuates tan skin and makes you look healthy and fresh. I love collecting NARS blushes (borderline compulsion), and this one is a summer time must.
Stila Lip Glaze in Watermelon-This gloss has a soft sheer color and a delicious scent. The click applicator is fun to use and much more sanitary than a pot of gloss.
NARS Duo eye shadow in Demon Lover- Purple and blue are great shades to have in your makeup repertoire. Two shade combos, you cant beat it. What’s great about NARS eye shadows’ is that you can make them sheer and soft, or layer and build up the intensity. For extra pop, and extra crease proof insurance, layer them over this.
Essie nail polish in Knockout Pout-This Barbie bubblegum pink is perfect for your next mani/pedi.
M.A.C. lipstick in Impassioned-Bright pink lips are synonymous with summer and you may have noticed a few celebrities rocking the look as seen here, here, here, and here. Take note of the variety of skin tones, pink is a great universal shade. Bright pink is even better.
A word of advice when experimenting with color, choose one color and one feature as the focus. i.e. if you’re doing your eyes with a teal liner, keep the rest of your face subdued and natural. Think evened out skin, warmed up with bronzer, and a light nude lip so as to not have your features compete.
